Upping the steaks at Maria’s SteakCafe

The outlet at 1 Powerhouse is Maria’s SteakCafe latest outpost and it was definitely one of the nicer locations. Windows covered one wall, stretching from floor to ceiling – we sat next to a lovely view of PeeJay, enjoying cocktails and first class steak.

The review started off with delightful Spicy Mussels appetiser, tomato based with chunky but that went well with the garlic toast. We were good and had our greens – Caesar Salad and Kale Salad. The kale takes some getting used to but it’s super healthy and came with yogurt dressing, so we’re convinced it’s good for us.

The highlight was the Sizzling Wagyu MB7 Porterhouse Steak, dubbed king of steaks because of its luxurious cut of composite meats. Tender, seared perfectly with slight crust and the meat still pink inside, this signature dish is meant for sharing. Cooked with just salt and pepper and sizzling with a slab of butter, it would be hard to resist this as the aroma hits you even before the dish reaches your table.

We also had NZ baby cutlets – so tender, delish, not gamey at all; and a portion of Grassfed Tenderloin, also a worthy meal for one. Oh, if you must have carbs the Seafood Aglio Olio is highly recommended – plenty of seafood and pasta nicely al dente.

All in all, an amazing meal, ending on a sweet note of Tiramisu and Prune cake. The Tiramisu was ok, being alcohol-free, it lacked oomph but the prune cake was much better – light, very moist and great taste and texture. Didn’t look appealing but was surprisingly very, very good and I highly recommend this.

So, my maiden trip to Maria’s Steakcafe proved worth the calories – a good place to bring the family or friends for celebration without busting the budget.
