Chicken & Beer, winning bet
I’m a sucker for fried chicken and having a case of FOMO after seeing other people posting about the quirky toilets at Chicken & Beer, of course gotta go try la! Bathed in an orange hue, the resto reminded me of American fast food diners, spanning over 2 floors. There’s a huge signboard outside so you can’t miss it. I was under the impression that this place was a byproduct of K-drama but apparently it’s got American roots. Can anyone enlighten me on the origins/inspiration for CB?
We had the Mr Chee Chicken platter which came with 5 pcs chicken in both original (Golden crispy) and spicy (Red Hot), chicken skin, coleslaw and French fries.
Verdict: the original flavour was surprisingly tasty, Crispy and moist, and quite juicy when you bite in. I didn’t care for the spicy version. Not that it was spicy, but the abundance of raw spices and chili flakes gave a slight bitter aftertaste to the skin which I didn’t really take to. No. 1 says he prefers this so it’s really to each his own.
The chicken skin bits was thin, super crisp and addictive, one of the better versions I’ve come across (just forget about your cholesterol OK), while the fries were nicely done too. Thankfully the coleslaw wasn’t drenched in mayo and was actually quite pleasing. Normally I avoid it as too much dressing and too sweet for my liking.
There’s also chicken with rice, indomie noodles, waffle, chicken chop and burger. Plenty of choices if you need more carbs.
Best of all were the craft beers from Paperkite, starting very reasonably at only RM23 (Pale ale) to RM28 (IPA). We had an Oatmeal Stout and Wit or Miss (Belgian wheat beer) which went splendidly with the chicken.
And yes, the quirky toilets are really cute, there’s even a selfie booth and pour yourself beer station.
Looks like CB’s hit a winning formula.
