Old school yam rice and braised trotters

Old school yam rice and braised trotters

Took me a while to find this place again as it’s been some years since I last visited. Leaving this here so I don’t forget next time I have a craving for yam rice.

Operated by an old couple in Sungai Way in Kopitiam 16, they have been here for decades and specialise in braised pork trotters and pepper soup with pig organs.

The trotter is savoury, cooked with dark soy sauce, slightly sweetish but has no vinegar so it’s not the same as the kind that’s usually for post-partum mothers.

The pepper soup is mild and generously laden with ingredients such as pork slices, pork ball, brisket, liver, tongue (bizarre food for some people but tasty to others), and they also have braised tofu and egg. All these go really well with the yam rice which they sell.

It’s a small coffeeshop which you might miss if you drive too fast on Jalan SS9a/2. Sungai Way. Nothing fancy, very old school, simple but good comfort food. In fact, when I made my order and wasn’t sure what to get, the old aunty basically decided what I should get for two persons, no more no less! And her estimation was perfect! We had all these dishes, more than enough for 2, for just RM32!

In today’s economy, that’s a deal that’s hard to find! Only open for lunch, they open early for breakfast too.
