Ramadan delights at Citarasa Nipah

It’s that time of the year when you get extra strong cravings for rendang and other Malaysian favourites. Give the cook at home a break and gather the family for a Ramadan buffet feast at Citarasa Nipah in EQ, KL. Featuring classic kampung dishes prepared by EQ’s Chef de Cuisine Chef Ali and his team, diners can look forward to time-tested favourites such as Rendang Daging Lebaran, Siakap Tiga Rasa Nusantara and Serawa Durian Selera Timur.

Some of the highlights of the spread that we tried during the preview included Daging Rusuk Gulai Kawah (beef ribs curry), Gulai Lemak Cili Padi Daging Salai (smoked meat curry) and Ayam Goreng Mamu (chicken). The piquant curries were rich in flavour, thanks to the myriad herbs and spices used to produce the tantalising dishes. You can’t help but take an extra helping of rice to go with the glorious curries. Fried with a healthy dose of spices, the tasty chicken was still juicy underneath the crisp exterior.

The seafood station is a good place to start the meal, decked with fresh selections of oysters, tiger prawns, mussels, baby scallops and more. For your fill of fibre, there are a host of local salads to choose from such as Kerabu Limau Bali, Udang Harimau dan Kacang, Nyonya Kerabu pucuk paku, kerabu betik muda.

The carving station features succulent Kambing Golek and not to be missed is Chef Ali’s signature Kambing Masak Beriani, a firm crowd favourite with tender, succulent cuts of lamb cooked in a medley of spices and accompanied by Nasi Beriani and Dal Sayuran. Another must try mainstay is the Signature EQ Satay, featured as one of Top Ten Malaysian Dishes You Need To Try by Travel + Leisure Magazine last year.

Chef Ali has more than 30 years of culinary experience and offers an insight into Malaysia’s rich gastronomic legacy by exploring recipes passed down from the generations, some dating back to more than a century.

“Citarasa Nipah stands as the cornerstone for excellent traditional Malaysian fare and this year is no different with Chef Ali and the team outdoing themselves on the culinary front,” says Chef Frederico Michieletto, EQ’s Executive Chef.

Those with a sweet tooth, be sure to try the durian choux, cempedak financiere and ciku cheesecake. Apart from traditional desserts such as pengat pisang, serawa durian and sago gula melaka, there are plenty of other delicious sweet choices.

With such an extensive array of dishes, Citarasa Nipah will be ideal for family reunions, corporate gatherings and get-togethers with friends. The Buffet (April 3 – May 1) is priced at RM208+ per adult/RM68+ (children aged 6 to 12) while Early Bird Vouchers are RM168+ per adult (Redemption Period: April 3 – 7 April and April 29 – May 1).

Takeaway sets are available from RM338+ while Premium Nipah Collection hampers featuring EQ’s limited edition sampul Raya and a host of goodies start from RM288+.
